Minnesota's Xcel Energy Center to Host Top 42 U.S. Players, including 10 Minnesotans, Eligible for 2019 NHL Draft

The media credential request form is now available for the 2018 USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game. The event will feature 42 of the top U.S. players, including 10 Minnesotans, eligible for the 2019 NHL Draft.

The seventh annual USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game will take place Wednesday, Sept. 19, in Saint Paul, Minn., at the Xcel Energy Center, home of the NHL's Minnesota Wild.

Minnesota Ties

Jamie Langenbrunner and Jordan Leopold, both Minnesota natives and U.S. Olympians, are serving as head coaches for the 2018 USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game ... Of the 17 states represented, Minnesota leads the way with 10 players, including Kaden Bohlsen (Willmar), Ben Brinkman (Edina), Ryder Donovan (Duluth), Ethan Frisch (Moorhead), Drew Helleson (Farmington), Aaron Huglen (Roseau), Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove), Michael Koster (Chaska) Garrett Pinoniemi (Mound) and Grant Silianoff (Edina) … To date, six AAPG alumni have been drafted by the Minnesota Wild, including Louie Belpedio (Skokie, Ill.), Jordan Greenway (Canton, N.Y.) and Luke Kunin (Chesterfield, Mo.), who all skated for the Wild this past season. In total, 23 Minnesota natives have participated in an All-American Prospects Game. Six of those Minnesotans went on to become first-round NHL selections, including Eden Prairie’s Casey Mittelstadt (2017, Buffalo Sabres, 8th overall), Edina’s Kieffer Bellows (2016, N.Y. Islanders, 19th overall), Burnsville’s Brock Boeser (2014, Vancouver Canucks, 23rd overall), Ham Lake’s Riley Tufte (2016, Dallas Stars, 25th overall) and Lakeville natives Ryan Poehling (2017, Montreal Canadiens, 25th overall) and Jake Oettinger (2017, Dallas Stars, 26th overall). Last season, Boeser was named MVP of the 2018 NHL All-Star Game, the first American rookie and second-ever rookie to earn the honor behind Mario Lemieux in 1984.

Combined, Langenbrunner and Leopold skated 28 seasons in the NHL and represented the United States internationally on 12 occasions, including three Olympic Winter Games, one World Cup of Hockey, four International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championships and four IIHF World Junior Championships. A two-time Stanley Cup champion (1999 Dallas, 2003 New Jersey), Langenbrunner also served as captain of the silver medal-winning 2010 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team. Leopold, a member of USA Hockey's National Team Development Program's inaugural season (1997-98), skated four seasons at the University of Minnesota (1998-2002) and capped his career in a Gopher uniform by winning the Hobey Baker Memorial Award his senior season and assisting on the game-winning goal in overtime to help Minnesota capture the 2002 NCAA national championship ... The 42 player roster was announced on Aug. 17 and can be found here ... Collectively, 17 states are represented on the roster, including Alaska, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin ... Thirty-one players have ties to the United States Hockey League, the top junior league in the U.S., including 19 players associated with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Mich. ...
