Looking Back: 2014 All-American Prospects Game

The Just of It: Team Grier topped Team Olczyk, 6-3, in the third annual CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York, on September 25, 2014. 

Celebrity Coaches: Mike Grier (Holliston, Mass,), who played three-plus seasons for the Buffalo Sabres, and Ed Olczyk (Palos Heights, Ill.), a 2012 inductee into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, served as head coaches for the 2014 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game.

Most Valuable Player:  Team Grier’s Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass.) netted the game-winning goal and an assist to earn MVP honors. Eichel’s tally, which came at 11:13 of the third period, was the first of three-straight goals Team Grier scored in the final frame to secure the victory. 


Eichel netted the game-winning goal with 8:47 to play.

Goalies Shine: Team Olcyzk’s Mike Lackey (Washington, D.C.) and Team Grier’s Luke Opilka (Effingham, Ill.) combined to stop 26 shots in the opening period to keep the game scoreless heading into the first intermission. Lackey finished with 15 saves on 16 shots, Opilka finished with 22 saves on 23 shots and Team Olczyk’s Ryan Larkin (Clarkson, Mich.) set a CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game record with 24 saves in relief of Lackey.

Multi-Point Efforts: Five players had multi-point games, including Jeremy Bracco (Freeport, N.Y.), who netted two goals, and Alex Baer (St. Louis Park, Minn.), who opened the scoring with this goal 5:35 into the second period.

Behind The Scenes: On the eve of the game, the players were welcomed with a dinner hosted by the Buffalo Sabres and a tour of the First Niagara Center.
