Coaches, Support Staff Named for 2023 BioSteel All-American Game

Event Set for Jan. 16 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced the coaching staffs for Team Blue and Team White for the 2023 BioSteel All-American Game, set for Jan. 16 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.

Mike Garman (Vail, Colo.), head coach and general manager of the USHL’s Chicago Steel, will serve as head coach for Team Blue, while Nick Oliver (Wannaska, Minn.), head coach of the USHL’s Fargo Force, will be the head coach for Team White.

The contest will feature top prospects eligible for the 2023 NHL Draft. Opening faceoff is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game can be seen live on NHL Network. Tickets are still available at the USA Hockey Arena box office and can be purchased online here.

ABOUT TEAM BLUE STAFF

Garman currently serves as general manager and head coach for Chicago, his sixth season with the Steel after four seasons as an assistant and associate head coach, and one as general manager. Garman was a staff member of the 2019-20 team that won the Anderson Cup as USHL regular-season champions, as well as the 2020-21 team that won both the Anderson Cup and Clark Cup as USHL playoff champions.

Anthony Walsh (Burr Ridge, Ill.) will serve as an assistant coach for Team Blue. Walsh is currently in his second season serving as an assistant coach at the USA Hockey National Team Development Program after most recently serving as an assistant coach at Fredonia State University for the 2021-22 campaign. The former Yale University captain served as the Bulldogs’ director of hockey operations in 2019-20 after graduating.

Andy Contois (Marquette, Mich.) will also be an assistant coach for Team Blue. Contois is currently in his second year as associate head coach for the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms. Prior to joining the Phantoms, he spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the ECHL’s Indy Fuel. Contois played college hockey at Northern Michigan University.

Jim Schroeder (Chicago, Ill./Chicago Steel) will serve as the athletic trainer for Team Blue, while Kyle Wagner (Smithfield, R.I./Muskegon Lumberjacks) will serve as equipment manager.

 

ABOUT TEAM WHITE STAFF

Oliver is currently in his first season as head coach of the Fargo Force, a team he played for from 2009-11. Prior to joining the Force, Oliver served as an assistant coach at his alma mater St. Cloud State from 2018-2022, helping guide the Huskies to the 2019 NCAA Frozen Four and a spot in the national championship game for the first time in school history. Prior to joining the staff at St. Cloud, Oliver was an assistant coach and director of scouting for the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede from 2015-2018. Oliver has also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team at the 2022 Five Nations tournament, as well as an assistant coach for the U.S. at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge. Oliver has also served as a USA Hockey National Player Development Camp coach on multiple occasions.

Chad Kolarik (Abington, Pa.) will serve as an assistant coach for Team White. Kolarik is in his first season with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and is on the Under-18 staff in 2022-23. The NTDP and Team USA alumni began his coaching career as an assistant with the USHL’s Waterloo Balckhawks in the 2021-22 campaign. Kolarik has represented the U.S. as a player several times internationally, most recently as a member of the 2018 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team.

Mike Leone (Dearborn Heights, Mich.) will also serve as an assistant coach for Team White. Leone is in his first season with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers serving as head coach and general manager. Prior to joining Green Bay, Leone spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the NTDP. He also has experience as an assistant men’s ice hockey coach at Bowling Green State University. Leone has served for an assistant coach for Team USA in international competition several times, including the 2021 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, 2021 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament, 2019 Under-17 Four Nations Tournament, and the 2019 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge.

Amber Martinelli (Pittsburgh, Penn./Youngstown Phantoms) will serve as the athletic trainer for Team White, and Steven Smith (Mission, Tex./Youngstown Phantoms) will serve as equipment manager.
